1.) Re-determination of the Avogrado Number
18 January 2012
“Measurement uncertainties are never zero” said Prof. Paul De Bievre, an Independent Consultant on Metrology in Chemistry (MiC) during a NANO Talk session at NANOTEC on the topic of "The re-determination of the Avogrado Number and the re-definition of the SI units mole (and kilogram)”. Prof. De Bievre statement can be put into a simple context of buying a kilo of fruits. If you go to a grocery store and decide to buy a kilo of fruits it is NOT exactly one kilo of fruits you are buying, even if the scale says it is one kilo. There are other factors that come into play such as gravity, mass, etc. However, because the differences are so minute that you do not notice it.

11.) NANOTEC & PTT join hands to help flood recovery effort.
19 December 2011
NANOTEC and Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) joined hand to research and produce an environmental friendly surface cleaning solution for flood victims to use as home cleaning product.
In order for the collaboration to go ahead, both NANOTEC and PTT insisted that the project must be eco-friendly for both the end-user and the environment, the product must be effective, and uses local natural products. From this equation, NANOTEC proceeded to use its knowledge in formulation of micelle from natural products to produce a surface cleaning solution which contains clove oil and fatty alcohol ethoxylate C 12 moleED/laureth-12. Thai Ethoxylate Co.,Ltd., a member of PTT group of companies helped to provide fatty alcohol ethoxylate C 12 moleED/laureth-12 compound which the company produced from petroleum refinery by product.

19.) Regulating cancer cell migration and invasion using ROS and Cav-1
14 November 2011
An investigation by a group of Thai researchers has demonstrated that Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) plays an important role in the migration and invasion of human lung cancer cells and that these effects are regulated by cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). The group used transfected human lung cancer cells with Cav-1 plasmid which were incubated and cultured prior to performing migration assay.
“The result of this investigation shows the effect of ROS on cell migratory functions is dependent on Cav-1 expression and is associated with Akt activity” said Dr. Ubonthip Nimmannit of National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC). “The activation of Akt activity by Cav-1 helps to mediate cancer cell migration and is likely to play an important role in the ROS induced effect on cell motility alteration”.
